You must have an open public assistance case with full cash assistance and children under 18 years old living in the apartment. The case must not have sanctions.
You must have a case in housing court for back rent and owe rent above the regular shelter allowance.
FHEPS will only pay up to $7000 in back rent – stale checks or missing regular shelter checks will not count towards this $7000 limit. If you owe more than $7000 you need to show where the balance will come from.
You must have no other money available to pay the back rent.
You must be the tenant of record with a written agreement or lease going at least one year into the future.
