Illegal Lockouts

It is illegal for anyone besides a marshal or sheriff to evict someone in NYC. If your landlord or roommate has changed your locks, the police may assist you in getting back into the apartment.

If you cannot get assistance from the police, you can file an illegal lockout case with the housing court. Please call our hotline at (212) 962-4795 and we can connect you to legal services right away.

If the prime tenant or roommate has locked you out, we can help you file an illegal lockout case in Housing Court.

Unfortunately, we cannot assist with illegal lockouts for commercial cases.
