Update 8/13/20: The eviction moratorium has been extended to October 1st.

The eviction moratorium for commercial tenants was extended until September 4th.

The Tenant Safe Harbor Act still stands.

Update: The Tenant Safe Harbor Act – landlords can file nonpayment case against tenants but can only get money judgments in court for April, May, and June rent if the tenant could not pay rent because their finances were affected by COVID.

Landlords have been able to file new cases against tenants since June 22nd; those cases are not moving forward in Housing Court at this time.

Original: The eviction moratorium for NYC Residential and Commercial tenants was extended until August 20.

The housing courts are not accepting new eviction cases. Tenants with emergency situations can file illegal lock out cases and emergency HP Actions.

Some cases are moving forward electronically. Seek legal advice before deciding to use email with the housing court.
