This training will discuss guardians ad litem (GALs) appointed under CPLR Article 12 and guardians appointed under Article 81 of the Mental Hygiene Law. We will describe the differences between the two guardians, when and how they are appointed, and what they can and cannot do. We will also address some of the ethical issues around representing tenants who may have diminished capacity.
