You will be scheduled for an intake part the first time you are in court. If you are in an intake part, you may meet an attorney that could represent you. Be sure to ask whoever you talk to who they represent. On your court date in resolution part, you will be encouraged to try to settle the case. You will talk to your landlord or his lawyer and try make an agreement.
This conversation will most likely happen in the court hallway: a crowded, noisy, busy place. During the COVID-19 pandemic period, your case may appear virtually through Microsoft Teams. The landlord’s lawyer will be in a big hurry and may try to pressure you to settle quickly.
It is very important that you take the time you need to work out an agreement that works for you. Ask to speak to the court attorney if you feel pressured or bullied.
The agreement will be written up and is called a stipulation or stip.
